Yemen ceasefire extended for two months | Yemen extends ceasefire for two more months

Jeddah: Saudi Arabia has welcomed the extension of the ceasefire in Yemen. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision of the United Nations to extend the current ceasefire for another two months is welcome as part of efforts to bring lasting peace to Yemen.

The statement also emphasized the importance of opening channels for humanitarian aid to the suffering population of Taiz province in Yemen. Saudi Arabia appreciates the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, for a ceasefire to maintain stability and peace in Yemen. This is seen as a follow-up step within the framework of the initiative announced by Saudi Arabia in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Saudi Arabia will have a firm position and support for all activities that guarantee security and stability in Yemen and achieve the aspirations of its people. The main goal is to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and start a political process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.

The Houthis must abide by the current ceasefire terms and speedily reopen roads in Taiz province to ease human suffering in Taiz. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the money needed to pay the salaries of the civilian officials should be deposited in the Central Bank of Yemen and it is an important step.
