“You are stupid, you are the shame of your family”: the insults of the mayor of Fontanar (Guadalajara) to a municipal worker | Present

The mayor of Fontanar (Guadalajara), Víctor San Vidal, is the protagonist of a video that has gone viral in recent days. This is a video in which this councilor, from the political party ‘Entre todos Fontanar’, is heard insulting and shouting at a worker at the Youth House in this town in the province of Guadalajara. A video that has been published by the digital ‘El Decano de Guadalajara’ and in which the mayor himself is heard calling said municipal worker “subnormal.” Also, in this same video, it is clearly heard “that you are mentally retarded.” Some insults to which are added “you are stupid (…) you are going to go to the fucking street (…) you are the shame of your family.”

A video that has spread like wildfire through different WhatsApp groups and, for this reason, the mayor of Fontanar himself has had to come forward with a statement on his Instagram profile. In that statement, dated this Wednesday, March 6, he details that “I deeply and sincerely regret it.” Also, he assures that “those who know me know that this behavior is not typical of me and that my character is deeply peaceful, tolerant and respectful.” In this sense, he alleges that the events that occurred last Sunday were something “absolutely exceptional.”

The mayor of Fontanar assures that he suffers from Mental Health problems

In this same statement, he emphasizes that this situation occurred due to “accumulated stress and extreme nervous tension that I have been carrying for some time, due to a heavy workload and the responsibilities that I carry out with an enormous lack of means.” In fact, he even talks about “a situation of media and judicial persecution from which I still defend myself, and which made me explode at the most unexpected moment.”

For all this, he assures that “I have gone to the Mental Health Services and they have diagnosed me with this condition and they have given me a temporary leave and have subjected me to treatment to overcome it.” Immediately afterwards, she noted that “I am in a situation that, since the Pandemic, is affecting many young people and that must be addressed medically.”

Finally, in this same statement, he confirmed that “I immediately asked for forgiveness from the affected person, who granted it to me (since we have many years of good relationship) and now (that this event has been made public, to publicly hurt me) “I also ask it publicly to his family and to society in general.”

The opposition has asked to investigate these events

For their part, after the commotion generated by this controversial video, both the PP and the PSOE requested the urgent convening of an extraordinary plenary session to address this alleged episode that occurred last Sunday at the Casa de la Juventud. A request in which it was sought that San Vidal himself give the appropriate explanations about this event.

Also, both parties have expressed their condemnation of any manifestation of violence, insults or mistreatment towards other people. In this sense, IU- Podemos requested an investigative commission to determine responsibilities for the events contained in the aforementioned video.
