Young man crawled out begging for medical attention and died in emergency room | Colombia

Walter Martínez, 20, died in the emergency room of the Lebrija Hospital, in Santander , after begging for several minutes to be treated for the sharp weapon wounds he presented, according to his family.

A video shows how Martínez crawls on the hospital floor and desperately asks for oxygen on several occasions. The young man had chest wounds, which would have been caused in the middle of a fight , the authorities indicated.

Family members, for their part, denounce that Martinez’s death was due to medical negligence. “How is it possible that a dying person comes to the hospital, asking for oxygen and being told that he is fine?”, reproached Edwar Martínez, the victim’s brother, who affirms that Walter received care when it was too late.

For its part, the Lebrija Hospital assured that the patient became aggressive, a fact that supposedly made it difficult for medical attention to be provided on time in the emergency room .

The complaint for negligence will be presented to the Prosecutor’s Office using the video as evidence.
