Vatican City: With the World Youth Conference set to begin next week in Lisbon, Portugal, Pope Francis has called on young people to pray for the youth through his mandate for prayer in August. The Pope also invited the young people to set aside their fears and embark on a joyful journey to bear witness to Christ in this era.
‘The church needs young people to not grow old’. The video of the Pope’s message begins with a quote from Pope John Paul. The video of the prayer mission was broadcast by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.
Through his message, the Pope exhorted the young people to move quickly on the path of joyful witness to the Gospel. The Pope also points out that the Church needs young people to survive.
The Pope answered questions in different languages, including from young people from the Philippines, Brazil and Ivory Coast.
‘The church is not a club for old people; Neither is the youth club. If the church is old, it will die. V. As Pope John Paul says, if you live like young people, you will become young people. “The Church needs young people so that it does not grow old,” the Pope said. In his message, the Pope reminded young people to share the Gospel with their lives and to pray for all young people on World Youth Day.
The Pope also dispelled doubts about the choice of the theme of the World Youth Meeting as ‘Mary arose and departed in haste’.
“Mariam’s attitude is exemplary to all her peers. As soon as she knew she was going to be a godmother, she didn’t try to take selfies or draw attention to others. The first thing Maryam did was to set out in haste, her journey to serve and help’.
‘The Pope prays for a world centered on love in this age of wars. If Christians are not happy, we become untrustworthy and no one will believe us’.
