Apple has long banned apps that run code from an external source.

But the recently announced changes now allow “software that is not embedded in the binary” in certain cases, with “retro game console emulation applications that may offer to download games” being specifically cited as one of these case.

Here are changes that open the door to the App Store. In addition to retro console games, games written in HTML5, streaming games, chatbots (chatbots) and modules (plug-in) can fall within the new App Store permissible definitions, as long as they comply.

It’s unclear how this will play out, but it’s possible that the emulators you see on Android and desktops, which let you play retro games from any outside source, will not be not allowed to appear in the App Store.

For example, some ROM file sets (read only memory) will be able to enter the famous store, while others, for reasons of copyright or authorization, will be kept away.

To be continued.
