Internet users who visited the YouTube channels of Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X, Eminem, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Drake, Cardi B, Michael Jachson, Kanye West, Taylor Swift or even Travis Scott were able to see Tuesday morning a strange new clip published by these very followed international stars. Except that it was a mass hack claimed by the Twitter account @lospelasobro. Accompanied by the message Free Paco Sanz, the video, which was deleted after about an hour, showed for more than a minute a man wearing a cap and a backwards guitar performing a song in Spanish before s end with the sounds of a woman’s orgasm.

Nicknamed “the man with 2000 tumors”, the protagonist of the clip is not unknown in Spain. Sentenced to two years in prison in 2021, Paco Sanz is a crook who was guilty of having defrauded people for nearly 300,000 euros. He claimed to be suffering from a cancer which left him only a few months of life and asked for money for a treatment against his illness. In fact, he had been diagnosed with Cowden syndrome, a rare genetic disease.

YouTube has not commented on the incident. Asked by The Verge, the Vevo music video streaming service, however admitted to having been the victim of an attack. He said “some videos were directly uploaded to a small number of Vevo artist channels earlier today by an unauthorized source.” Assuring that hackers could not access any pre-existing content, the firm said it was carrying out a review of its security systems.
