The jury of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity 2023 discussed in its first meeting after the announcement of the opening of nominations for the fourth session of this independent global prize last July, ways to continue empowering the prize for leaders and humanitarian movements at the grass-roots level to bring about a radical change towards overcoming one of the biggest global challenges today. It is to promote peaceful coexistence and human brotherhood. During the virtual meeting, the Secretary-General of the award, member of the committee, Counselor Muhammad Abdul Salam, welcomed his fellow members of the award jury; They are the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos, the former Vice President of Costa Rica, Dr. Epsy Campbell-Barr, Dean of the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Holy See, His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, the laureate 2015 Nobel Peace Prize and Entrepreneur Dr. Wedad Bouchamaoui.
Counselor Mohamed Abdel Salam said: The Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity has become a source of inspiration for many around the world, and a ray of hope for all peace lovers, especially in light of the exceptional support provided by the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Catholic Church. Miguel Angel Moratinos expressed the United Nations’ continued support for the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity, and said: The Human Fraternity Project has a responsibility to save humanity more than ever. He stressed that the United Nations was at the forefront of the ranks to recognize and support the Human Fraternity Document signed by Pope Francis and the Good Imam in Abu Dhabi, and described His Eminence Cardinal Tagli as “a gesture of hope” that should be disseminated and strengthened in all societies. and entities that make a difference in the world and promote intimacy, friendship and brotherhood among peoples.
For his part, Kailash Satyarthi said that although the jury is a small group, it has a unique opportunity to make a huge impact by celebrating individuals and entities who dedicate their lives to promoting human brotherhood at a time when so many crises threatening different regions of the world.
Dr. Widad Bouchmawi said: “Our world is full of conflicts that make spreading a culture of compassion and human brotherhood through humanitarian initiatives such as the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity more urgent than ever.” “We will be guided in the search for the most important personalities who lead the movements of human fraternity with our knowledge and belief,” said Dr. Epsy Kamel Bar. “The rich history of this award makes being a member of the jury a very exciting experience and a source of pride.”
