Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky intervened Sunday via a recorded speech during the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards to ask for support for his country, in the grip of an invasion by Russia.

“The war. What is the exact opposite of music? The silence of cities in ruins and people killed”, launched President Zelensky with his usual khaki t-shirt, before a performance by John Legend, joined on stage by Ukrainian artists, Mika Newton and Lyuba Yakimchukt.
“Our musicians wear bulletproof vests instead of tuxedos. They sing for the wounded in the hospitals, even for those who cannot hear them. But the music will be heard regardless,” continued Mr. Zelensky.
“We defend our freedom to live, to love, to be heard. On our land, we are fighting Russia, the bearer of a horrible silence, with its bombs. Dead silence. Fill this silence with your music”, urged the Ukrainian head of state.
“Tell the truth about the war on your social media, on TV. Support us in any way you can, all but silence. And after that will come peace,” he continued.
