Zelensky visits the Snake Island in the Black Sea, a symbol of resistance against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has visited the tiny Black Sea Snake Island whose defenders defied a Russian warship at the start of the invasion, as the conflict enters its 500th day.

“Today, we are on Snake Island, which, like all of Ukraine, will never be invaded by the invaders, because we are the country of the brave,” the Ukrainian president said in an undated video posted on social media.

500 children killed

Zelensky confirmed, on Saturday, that he discussed the security and grain deal files during his meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Istanbul.

The Ukrainian President expressed his gratitude for the support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the protection of the state, the people and their interests, and interest in the summit in Vilnius (NATO summit) that is being prepared, stressing that he will separately discuss the protection and development of the grain export agreement across the Black Sea and additional efforts to achieve food security.

The United Nations has condemned the civilian casualties that have taken place since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine said in a statement, on Friday, that more than nine thousand civilians, including 500 children, have been killed since the start of the Russian invasion, knowing that United Nations officials have previously stated that the actual number is likely much higher.
