The TOP 09 executive committee will decide on the final nomination on Thursday. “Today’s debate and the decision of the TOP 09 board were key for me,” said Ženíšek.

The prime minister and chairman of the ODS, Petr Fiala, wants to meet with Ženíšek on Friday, if the TOP 09 executive committee approves him the day before. He could be appointed to the government next week, but that depends on the president, Petr Pavlov, the prime minister added.

“He is an experienced politician, that is certainly an advantage,” Fiala said of Ženíšek. According to him, he has experience in the functioning of the state administration and is also familiar with foreign policy

The former vice-chairman of TOP 09 is a political all-rounder – in the past he was a deputy twice – first at the Ministry of Justice and then at the Ministry of Health.

As a regional representative of the Pilsen Region, he participated in the anniversary of the liberation of the city by the American army in Pilsen, and now he has a great chance to move to the post vacated by the resignation of Minister Helena Langšádlová. Then Ženíška could replace him at the head of the foreign committee.

The vice-rector of the University of Silesia in Opava, Pavel Tuleja, was originally supposed to take the post after Langšádlová, but he gave up his candidacy on Friday after information was published that he had published in so-called predatory journals, and also because of criticism of the quality of his professional work.

Langšádlová resigned from the position of Minister for Science, Research and Innovation due to TOP 09’s dissatisfaction with the presentation of results in the department. She announced her decision to resign at the end of April. She said she was quitting because she couldn’t sell her work better and didn’t have “likes” according to her party leadership.

According to Pekarová Adamová, Langšádlová put more effort into the content part of her work than the external presentation, but even such a presentation is the job of the minister, emphasized the head of the ruling party, whose preferences have already fallen to 3.5 percent.
