That’s what it’s about

In a spectacular action in February 2022, the feared Belgian drug lord Flor Bressers (36) and his partner were arrested in a luxury apartment in Zurich.

On Wednesday, the 29-year-old was sentenced to two years’ conditional imprisonment by the Zurich District Court for aggravated money laundering.

The Dutch woman was exempted from the process – due to conditions imposed by the Belgian authorities, where she has been since being extradited from Switzerland.

The process lasted almost an hour, then the Zurich District Court approved the prosecutor’s proposal on Wednesday. The accused, a 29-year-old Dutch woman, was not at the trial. “Due to official requirements, she cannot leave Belgium,” the chairman justified the absence. Since the woman confessed and accepted the proposed sentence, the court exempted her from the trial.

The beautician was in custody in Switzerland with her baby for eight and a half months. According to media reports, she was first handed over to the Dutch authorities and then extradited to Belgium at the request of the Belgian authorities.

One of the most wanted drug lords

Flor Bressers, her 36-year-old partner and father of their child, is also in custody in Belgium. He is considered one of the most wanted drug lords in Europe, has a master’s degree in criminology and was arrested in February 2022 together with his girlfriend in the canton of Zurich after two years on the run. In October of the same year he was extradited to Belgium. The man was sentenced to four years in prison by the Antwerp Court of Appeal in 2020 for theft with gang violence, gang extortion with weapons and unlawful detention with death threats – but he did not serve this sentence. He is said to have kidnapped a criminal and used a razor to punish him for losing a shipment of drugs.

According to media reports, Flor Bressers was already charged in Limburg NL in 2010 because he is said to have cut off the finger of a Dutch criminal with garden shears. He was acquitted for lack of evidence, but the alleged incident earned him the nickname “the finger cutter”.

2.5 million francs spent in two years

On the run in Zurich, the couple lived in the lap of luxury for two years: the two spent around 2.5 million francs. “A very, very luxurious lifestyle,” the judge said, “with drug money.” The expenses are listed in the indictment. In June 2020, the couple stayed at the Hotel Dolder Grand for 75,000 francs and at the Hotel Baur on Lac they spent 21,000 francs for a suite for two weeks. The couple later lived in Rüschlikon for rent for just under 220,000 francs and paid 175,000 francs for home furnishings.

From July 2021, the family lived in Zurich-West in a luxury apartment for 206,000 francs. They spent 134,000 francs on hi-fi/TV sets, 660,000 francs on jewelery and watches and 76,000 francs on handbags. Flor Bressers had tailor-made suits made for 31,000 francs, and his girlfriend bought dresses for 217,000 francs. The couple shelled out 175,000 francs to buy a boat and over a hundred thousand francs to set up a consulting firm. The two were wine lovers and bought 131 top wines for 400,000 francs, which makes an average price of over 3,000 francs per bottle.

The couple lived largely undisturbed in Switzerland from 2020. Thanks to forged documents, including a fake employment contract, the migration office issued the family with a B residence permit.
