檢, former aide Eun Soo-mi seeks 7 years in prison for ‘solicitation in return for investigation convenience’

Prosecutors have demanded seven years in prison for a former policy aide who charged with receiving information from police officers in the investigation of former Seongnam Mayor Eun Soo-mi’s violation of the Political Funds Act and accepting illegal solicitations in return.

At the decision hearing held at the Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Jin-Woo Shin) of the Suwon District Court on the 13th, the prosecution said that Park Mo, a former Seongnam city policy aide (equivalent to grade 4), was charged with bribery under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes, with 7 years in prison and a fine. He asked the court to impose a fine of 200 million won and a fine of 100 million won.

In 2018, Park received a request to be promoted to an officer by an acquaintance who is a city hall official or to be appointed as a city planning committee member of a business partner in exchange for receiving convenience after hearing the progress of the investigation from police officers investigating the alleged violation of the Political Fund Act of former Mayor Eun in 2018. He was charged with hearing, etc. He is also accused of receiving money and valuables worth 100 million won in exchange for receiving a request from a subordinate of the investigation manager to let a specific company take over the 450 million won tunnel street light replacement project that Seongnam City had been promoting.

The prosecution explained the reason for the sentence, saying, “The defendant took the lead in the crime and received a bribe worth 100 million won.”

In his final statement, Park said, “I apologize for causing a social uproar, and as a public official, I ask for forgiveness from all those who suffered due to wrong judgment and actions.”

Meanwhile, former mayor Eun is being tried on charges of conspiring to commit a crime with Park, and a police officer who made a business-related request to Park is serving a sentence of eight years in prison.
