Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Russia’s response to Western main tank support for Ukraine will not be limited to tanks, and that it will deploy more than just tanks.
According to Sputnik News, President Putin said at a ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory held in Volgograd, the old Stalingrad, on the 2nd local time, saying, “It is unbelievable that German-made Leopard tanks threaten us again.”
However, it did not specifically mention what kind of response would be more than a tank.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a request for comment on the remarks, “As the West offers new weapons, Russia will respond with full potential,” Tass news agency reported.
“Unfortunately, we are seeing Nazism modernize and pose a direct threat to our country,” Putin said.
Every year on February 2nd, Russia holds a victory ceremony to commemorate the historic victory of the former Soviet Union in defending Stalingrad from Nazi Germany in 1943 during World War II.
At the event, Putin slammed Ukraine, the West, and Germany, which supported domestic tanks, as modern-day Nazis.
Russia is protesting against the recent decision to support Western main battle tanks, such as the German-made Leopard 2 and the American-made Abrams, to Ukraine, saying that further dialogue is meaningless as the direct intervention of the West.
In particular, it is strongly criticizing Germany’s tank support, saying it was a decision that forgot the historical responsibility of the Nazis during World War II.
President Putin was confident that Russia could win this war as well.
“The continuity of generations, values and traditions – all these are what characterize Russia, what makes us strong and confident in ourselves, our legitimacy and victory,” Putin said.
“Russia will win in Ukraine as it did 80 years ago. I am confident of our victory,” he said.
