Dubai – Dubai has taken to heart the message that a healthy body and mind are the foundation of a healthy society. Taking up the fitness challenge of Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the people of Dubai took part in the Dubai Run by turning Sheikh Zayed Road into a sea of people. Everyone returned after the Dubai Run with a pledge to exercise and ensure a healthy body. Dubai’s busiest Sheikh Zayed Road was transformed into a running track on Sunday. The Dubai Run, known as the world’s largest free fun run, was joined by Malayalis and expatriates. The Dubai Run was part of Sheikh Hamdan’s Fitness Challenge for Healthy Body, Healthy Society. People have been pouring in since 3 in the morning. One of the world’s busiest highways, Sheikh Zayed Road, was thronged by a sea of people yesterday. The vehicles were thrown out and the people rushed in. Sunday was the fourth edition of the Dubai Run.
The Dubai Run is a step towards making Dubai the most dynamic city in the world. The race was flagged off in front of the Future Museum. The race was in 5 km and 10 km categories. The 5km runners finished the race past the Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa.
The 10km runners followed Sheikh Zayed Road by the Dubai Canal, passed the Dubai World Trade Center and finished at Al Mustaqbal Street near the Dubai International Financial Centre.
Sheikh Hamdan said the success of the Dubai Fitness Challenge is due to the commitment shown by citizens, expatriates and visitors to healthy living. The success of the Dubai Run is an example of what can be achieved when everyone stands together as one. He said that through this, he was able to show the world that Dubai is the best place to work, live and travel.
