The church’s name day celebration was celebrated on Tuesday in the Lungau. But for one it was time to say goodbye – Pastor Bernhard Rohrmoser said goodbye to Lungau after 19 years.
The Mariapfarr pilgrimage church was first mentioned in a document in 923. It is considered the first and oldest church, the “mother church” of the Lungau, and was confirmed as an important place of pilgrimage in 1225. In 2018, the parish church “To Our Lady” was finally elevated to the status of a basilica.
The 1100th anniversary was celebrated on the holiday. The High Festival in Mariapfarr began with the celebratory sacramental service with consecration of herbs by Archbishop Franz Lackner – together with Pastor Bernhard Rohrmoser, who is leaving Mariapfarr after 19 years and moving to the Großarl-Hüttschlag parish in September. The future pastor in Mariapfarr is called Father Paul.
After the service, Pastor Rohrmoser was bid farewell by the four congregations of the parish (Mariapfarr, Weißpriach, Göriach and St. Andrä) and all the associations in the four locations. For him there was great recognition for what has been achieved over the years and best wishes for Pastor Rohrmoser and his vicar’s housewife and pastoral assistant Sylvia Fritzenwallner. With great thanks, in the highest appreciation and as a permanent souvenir, the mayors of the four communities presented a hand-carved statue of the figure of Mary – in contrast to the stone original, the current work of art (made by Mariapfarrer artist Reinhard Feldinger) also has the scepter in its hand and the baby Jesus on it Poor. The clubs donated a model of the Basilica Minor, made by Thomas Lanschützer from Mariapfarr. Pastor Rohrmoser received an award from the state fire brigade association, as he himself is a member of the volunteer fire brigade.
This was followed by the parade of the clubs at the grandstand on Josef-Mohr-Platz, with an honorary salute from the Mariapfarr rifle company and honorary dances by the Mariapfarrer and St. Andräer Samson with the dwarves.
