We will not stop fighting to protect the Greek household,” added Mr. Skrekas.
He also emphasized that food inflation has begun to decelerate. In supermarkets in particular, it fluctuated at 0.28% in March. In fact, from January to March, food inflation has decreased by 40%. “Greece, from 2019 to 2024, has overall the lowest general inflation in Europe. In 4 years, in food we had 30.1% inflation and look how much other countries had. The turnover per square meter in supermarkets in Greece is half of that in Romania and 30% lower than in Portugal. We have many halls, the chains have many operations and a smaller turnover. Supermarkets would have super profits if we didn’t put the cap.”
