1388 deaths, 1388 injuries in 2022 – MALI24

This is the toll of victims of traffic accidents in Mali in 2022. The information was revealed on the World Day of Civil Protection celebrated on March 1, 2023.

This milestone event, the celebration of the World Civil Defense Day celebrated on 1is March of each year was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, Mr. Oumar SOGOBA in the presence of Brigadier General Boukary KODIO, and Director General of Civil Protection who had at his side all the Central directors of the MSPC, the representative of the mayor of the commune IV Issa SIDIBE civil protection officers and NCOs and several other guests.

This year’s theme was: “The role of information technology in risk assessment”. The choice of this theme calls for reflection on the use of new technologies in the strategy of prevention and response to accidents and disasters.

The year 2022 was marked by 28 230 interventions on the side of civil protection with a predominance of traffic accidents with 18,755 cases and fires with 1,602 cases. And the human toll amounts to 33 337 injured and 1 388 case of death.

These figures which call out today on the need to respect the highway code.

In his communication, the Director General of Civil Protection, Brigadier General Books CODE recalled that the theme chosen this year: “The role of information technology in risk assessment” fully meets the vision of the Executive Council of the International Civil Defense Organization (OIPC).

“Risks from natural disasters are increasing and pose a growing threat to countries and are characterized by instability and rapid change. And if it is established that appropriate investments can prevent risks from turning into disasters, it is still necessary to have precise and reliable data on the existing risks,” he insisted.

Before adding that “Information technologies are an essential component of any effective disaster management system insofar as they facilitate the collection, processing and analysis of information, early warning as well as good coordination between the different actors. »

For its part the Secretary General of the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, Oumar SOGOBA praised the efforts made by civil protection on the ground.

“This celebration is a testimony that civil protection in the Republic of Mali, is in the process of assuming and in this with the State because who speaks of assuming in the name of an elite corps, it is necessary to that the State provides the means, which is why we must salute the population itself, which has made this sacrifice,” he maintained.

Note that a parade of elements of civil protection and gear ended the ceremony.
