(Tokyo = Yonhap News) Correspondent Park Seong-jin = Japan’s new confirmed cases of COVID-19 surpassed 150,000 on the 20th, a record high.

Local broadcaster NHK reported on the 20th that the number of newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Japan was 152,536.

This is an increase of about 40,000 from the previous record of 116,661 people on the 16th.

The ‘seventh wave’ (the seventh wave of Corona 19), which was the peak of the ‘sixth wave’ (the sixth wave of Corona 19), greatly surpassed the previous record of 104,169 confirmed cases per day on February 4th. There is an evaluation that the trend has started in earnest.

It was the highest number in the past in 30 of the 47 prefectures (regional local governments) in Japan.

Osaka Prefecture recorded 21,976 people with over 20,000 a day for the first time, and Tokyo with 20,401 people, surpassing 20,000 for the first time since February 5.

The re-spread of COVID-19 in Japan was analyzed to be due to the spread of the sub-mutation ‘BA.

However, the daily death toll from COVID-19 in Japan is currently at the level of 10-30, which is still low compared to the 100-300 daily death toll in February.

As of the previous day, the number of severe COVID-19 cases was 155, only one-tenth of the 1,500 at the peak of the sixth wave.

For this reason, the Japanese government is not considering new behavior restrictions, such as restrictions on restaurant business hours.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno at a regular press conference on the same day said, “We will not impose new restrictions on measures against the spread of COVID-19. We will do our best to secure the provision system,” he said.
