17 Cuban rafters make landfall on Long Key, Florida

More Cuban rafters continue to arrive on Florida’s shores, despite constant warnings by US authorities of the risks of such illegal entries.

Border Patrol sources reported that this Tuesday morning 17 Cuban migrants managed to reach the coast, although they were intercepted by agents on the spot.

Agent Walter N. Slosar, chief of the patrol in the Miami sector, recently reported: “early this Tuesday morning, 17 migrants from Cuba made landfall in a rustic boat in the Florida Keys.”

Specifically, at 6:00 am, the agents of Border Patrol and his partners responded to arrival on Long Key and encountered 17 adult males, he notes in his message. In the images, the unsafe state of a red raft can be perfectly appreciated.

Now, your immigration status must be defined. Most of the detected Cuban rafters are returned to the island.

This Sunday, for example, the United States Coast Guard repatriated 75 people to Cuba, after several interceptions off the Florida coast.

According to official figures, since October 1, 2022, its crews have intercepted 5,846 Cubans. The number is close to the figure for the entire fiscal year 2022: 6,182.

EMIGRATION OF CUBANS TO THE UNITED STATES

From Coast Guard District Seven, Petty Officer Nicole J. Groll pointed out: “Don’t go to sea. They may be disqualified from the Department of Homeland Security’s new immigration programs.”

Even so, this continues to be the way by which Cubans without the possibility of accessing the new parole try to reach the United States.

This Saturday, March 4, a total of 48 Cuban migrants disembarked in the Dry Tortugas National Park, in Florida, according to a report from the Border Patrol.

The Coast Guard recommends that family members of Cuban rafters living in the United States contact the office of their local government representative to learn their whereabouts.
