2023 Detroit Auto Show: Highlights, Premieres, and What to Expect

2023-09-11 22:00:00

For decades, the Detroit Auto Show was held at the beginning of January and opened the annual car show ball. For a long time it was THE show not to be missed, the one which presented all the major new products, especially from the three major American manufacturers. The latter amazed us with exceptional presentations which were worth the trip alone.

Then like many trade fairs, Detroit has faded over the years, shunned by more and more brands. From one time slot change to another, the Detroit Auto Show returns this year and it will open its doors this week with the traditional media day. What to expect from the 2023 Detroit Auto Show?

35 brands present

In terms of media premieres, you should not expect a succession of grandiose unveilings; the Show is not planning more than six. We are a long way from the forty presentations spread over almost three days that had to be covered a few years ago.

According to Detroit Auto Show officials, 16 major manufacturers will be present while 35 brands will be represented. Among the lot, the electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, which has rarely appeared in Detroit. The brand will take the opportunity to exhibit the revised version of its Model 3 2024, called “Project Highland”. Two weeks ago we were treated to the first images of the European and Asian version.

The new 2024 Ford F-150

One of the highlights this year will of course be the unveiling of a new version of the Ford F-150, including a reworked hybrid variant. A rejuvenation is normally done a few years after the launch of a new generation, 2021 in the case of the F-150. This allows buyers to wait while waiting for the next generation. Ford is therefore taking the opportunity to update the design of its full-size pickup truck, particularly in the case of the front grille, headlights and taillights. Moreover, rumor has it that the grille will take on the style of the new 2023 Super Duty as well as the next generation Ranger. I will be there to cover the event, you will have all the details on the new Ford F-150 this week.

The manufacturer also plans to present its recent Mustang GTD, a track car made legal for the road, as well as the Mustang Mach-E Rally, an electric SUV that has been fortified to attack the trails.

On sale: Ford Lightning 2023 We must give back to Caesar what belongs to him. Ford was the first manufacturer to market a full-size electric pickup truck in Canada.

GM et Jeep

General Motors has planned press conferences for its GMC and Cadillac brands, without specifying a particular model. We remember that Cadillac recently unveiled its Escalade IQ.

Stellantis announced that it would hold a presentation regarding its brand Jeep without revealing any further details. The Show will also present an exhibition of exotics and luxury, which is always of interest to racing car enthusiasts. I will definitely bring back a photo gallery!

RPM’s opinion

Clearly the days of auto shows are over. Nowadays, car manufacturers no longer wait for different trade shows to present their new products. They present them according to their marketing program while the media and social networks give them the visibility they seek, in addition to saving hundreds of thousands of dollars.
