2023 Half-Year GDP Report: 14 Provinces Outperform National Growth, 3 Provinces Exceed 8%

As of July 28, 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have released their GDP “semi-annual reports” for 2023, and only Anhui Province has not released economic operating data for the first half of 2023.

According to preliminary calculations by the National Bureau of Statistics, the GDP in the first half of the year was 59,303.4 billion yuan, calculated at constant prices, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%, an increase of 1.0 percentage points from the first quarter.

In terms of year-on-year growth rate, in the first half of the year, 14 of the 30 provinces grew faster than the national level by 5.5%, namely Shanghai (9.7%), Hainan (8.6%), Tibet (8.4%), Jilin (7.7%), Inner Mongolia (7.3%), Zhejiang (6.8%), Gansu (6.8%), Qinghai (6.8%), Jiangsu (6.6%), Ningxia (6.5%), Shandong (6.2%), Hebei (6.1%), Hubei ( 5.6%), Liaoning (5.6%), Sichuan (5.5%), and Beijing (5.5%) grew at the same rate as the national level.

Among them, the growth rate of Shanghai, Hainan, and Tibet exceeded 8%, and that of Jilin and Inner Mongolia exceeded 7%. Shanghai had the highest growth rate, reaching 9.7%.

From the perspective of economic aggregate, compared with the same period last year, Guangdong and Jiangsu successfully exceeded 6 trillion yuan in the first half of this year, reaching 6,290.98 billion yuan and 6,046.53 billion yuan respectively. Shanghai, Hebei, and Beijing successfully exceeded 2 trillion yuan, reaching 2,139.017 billion yuan respectively. Yuan, 2,077.89 billion yuan, 2,062.13 billion yuan, Guizhou reached 1 trillion yuan, 1,021.875 billion yuan.

According to published data, the GDP of Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Henan in the first half of this year exceeded 3 trillion yuan, respectively 6,290.98 billion yuan, 6,046.53 billion yuan, 4,412.5 billion yuan, 3,871.7 billion yuan, and 3,132.6 billion yuan. Sichuan, Hubei, Fujian, Hunan, Shanghai, Hebei, and Beijing are in the 2 trillion echelon, with 2,790.101 billion yuan, 2,625.922 billion yuan, 2,554.78 billion yuan, 2,399.864 billion yuan, 2,139.017 billion yuan, 2,077.89 billion yuan, and 2,062.13 billion yuan. Although Anhui has not released economic data for the first half of the year, its GDP exceeds 2 trillion yuan and ranks among the top ten in the country. There should be no suspense.

From the perspective of per capita disposable income of residents, compared with the same period last year, in the first half of this year, both Shanghai and Beijing exceeded 40,000 yuan, 42,870 yuan and 41,358 yuan respectively, and Shandong exceeded 20,000 yuan, reaching 20,309 yuan. The top five provinces with per capita disposable income of residents in the first half of this year are: Shanghai (42,870 yuan), Beijing (41,358 yuan), Zhejiang (34,317 yuan), Jiangsu (27,795 yuan), and Tianjin (26,655 yuan).
