The 2027 NCAA indoor track and field season officially gets underway on the weekend of Friday, Dec. 4, kicking off two weeks after the conclusion of the DI cross country championships, according to NCAA.com.
Opening Weekend Meets and Qualifying Windows
The indoor campaign starts two weeks after the cross country championships scheduled for Nov. 21. Per NCAA qualifying criteria, results from indoor meets held as early as Dec. 1 can be taken into consideration for championship qualifiers.
Several high-profile competitions highlight the opening weekend on Dec. 4-5. Boston University hosts the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, while Clemson University stages the Clemson Opener on Dec. 4. Additional early action includes the Commodore Winter Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt on Dec. 5 and the Cyclone Holiday Invite hosted by Iowa State on Dec. 11-12.
Key January Invitationals Shape the Contenders
As the calendar flips to January, the schedule intensifies with a heavy slate of multi-day invitationals across the country. The final weekend of January features a massive concentration of competitive opportunities. Programs will travel to the Bucknam Razorback Invitational in Arkansas, the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, and the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson, all running Jan. 29-30.

Unlike the outdoor schedule, the indoor season features no preliminary qualification meets prior to the national championship. The indoor season culminates at the 2027 NCAA DI Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, running Friday, March 12, to Saturday, March 13, 2027. Arkansas serves as the host school, welcoming the nation’s best to the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville following a 2026 campaign where Arkansas and Georgia secured the men’s and women’s national titles.
