Iowa State women’s golf head coach Christie Martens has been named to the watch list for the 2026-27 Division I Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year Presented by Golf Pride. Martens is one of 19 coaches selected to the list and stands as one of only two representatives from the Big 12 conference.
Iowa State Secures Nineteenth Spot in Fall Rankings
The recognition places Martens among a group of collegiate leaders as the program builds on a strong autumn campaign. Iowa State finished the fall portion of the schedule slotted at No. 19 in the final set of fall rankings. Martens previously earned a spot on the watch list during the spring portion of the season last year.
The veteran coach is currently in her 23rd year leading the Cyclones. Under her direction, the program has secured 16 NCAA Regional appearances. Last season, Martens collected Big 12 Coach of the Year honors for the second time in her career as a unanimous selection in 2026, adding to the conference accolade she first won in 2011.
Cyclones Capture Team Titles at Opening Events
Iowa State positioned itself early by capturing the team titles at its first two events of the season. The Cyclones opened the campaign by winning the Badger Invitational before following up with a victory at the Schooner Fall Classic.

The team will resume competition to open the spring schedule. Iowa State is set to tee off on Jan. 31 at the Tropical Classic in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
