Brain exercises have proven effective in delaying Alzheimer’s disease, and have improved the condition in many patients.

Here are some brain exercises that can prove effective in preventing the disease, as mentioned in “time’s of India”.

– Crossword:

According to a 2011 research study, playing crossword puzzles delayed the onset of Alzheimer’s by 2 to 5 years.

The study titled “Association of Crossword Engagement with Memory Decline in People with Dementia,” published in the Journal of the International Neuropsychiatric Association, stresses the importance of cognitive stimulation of leisure activities for mental health issues such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Chess:

Aside from the fact that many researchers have found chess to be effective, the amount of mental exercise that goes into playing chess is proof in itself that it is one of the best brain exercises ever.

Playing Sudoku:

Experts said that playing Sudoku can prevent complications such as Alzheimer’s disease, which can be prevented by solving Sudoku, crossword puzzles and chess because they stimulate the brain and keep it active, said Professor Shailendra Mohan Tripathi, a faculty member in the Department of Mental Health on Aging at the University of King George Medical Center (KGMU) for TOI.
