Alvarez, a Peruvian, had been living in a hotel with her family and more than 140 illegal immigrants at the time. Authorities believed that she was stuffed into a suitcase by the kidnappers and taken away.
It is understood that since Alvarez disappeared, the authorities have not found her and the kidnappers. Police have launched a nationwide investigation and seized the girl’s toothbrush for DNA analysis. Some people saw officials rummaging through garbage cans near the hotel for evidence, and two expert teams arrived at the scene with search equipment; a nearby garage was also searched because police feared that someone might be there.
It is understood that Alvarez and her family have been living in the hotel where the incident occurred since September last year, and her parents also collapsed during a church vigil because of this incident. Alvarez’s father was recently released after spending months in prison for theft and credit card fraud. “I don’t think that’s why the daughter was kidnapped, I can’t believe they did something to the little girl. I think maybe it was for extortion,” he said.
In recent days, people in the Peruvian community have also taken to the streets for this, holding signs and photos of Alvarez. Alvarez’s mother was sent to the hospital after accidentally ingesting bleach. Fortunately, she has been discharged after treatment.
