7 months waiting for a Spanish birth registration! Complaints to the Spanish Consulate in Havana are increasing regarding delays in the issuance of said items, after the processes for acquiring nationality have been approved.
Affected citizens have expressed frustration, pointing out the need to expand consulate staff to speed up the registration process.
“What should be expanded is the staff to register, since we have been waiting for registration for 7 months, it is desperate, speeding up registrations must be the priority,” claimed a person to the consular headquarters.
The slowness of the system has led some to question the usefulness of passport appointments if registrations are not happening at an adequate pace. The concern is palpable among those who have been waiting for months without receiving birth certificates, an essential document to continue with their procedures.
Another person considered that the priority should be neither one thing nor the other, but rather speeding up the entire Spanish nationality process under the Democratic Memory Law, from credentials to registration.
What happens with Spanish birth registrations in Cuba?
Regarding registrations, Cuban Directory was able to learn that several descendants in Cuba are receiving emails from the Spanish Consulate with their registration information and instructions to request a passport. But, no literal birth. “It takes months,” they told our page.
“I asked a family member to request my certification from Spain and they responded from the Central Civil Registry Office that ‘the request was returned uncompleted because the duplicate corresponding to their registration record has not been sent by the Consulate General of Spain’” , they added.
David Casarejos calms down
David Casarejos, President of the Civil Rights and Participation Commission of the General Council of Spanish Citizenship Abroad, has commented on the situation, highlighting that, although some consulates show 100% approvals, the registration rate is 0%. .
He acknowledges that each consulate is different and that Havana faces a large number of requests, which could explain some of the delay.
Likewise, he has tried to reassure applicants who have not yet received their credentials, indicating that they will be taken into account despite the delays. “You are in the process, obviously, once you receive emails requesting to start the process or with the documents under consideration, it is clear that you have started the procedure,” wrote.
