Big Fuji presentation on September 12th

Almost exactly two weeks until the next Fuji X Summit and therefore around two weeks until the presentation of the new Fujifilm GFX100 II. It is an open secret in the rumor mill that Fujifilm am 12. September 2023 will unveil a new medium format camera and the successor to the GFX100 presented in 2019.

We had previously reported on some technical data, for example it is known that the camera will have a detachable electronic viewfinder and a detachable battery grip. In addition, a new 100 megapixel sensor with a higher readout speed.

In the meantime, other specifications of the new Fuji GFX100 II – the name has now also been confirmed – have leaked out. If you take a look at the new technical data, you quickly get the impression that the GFX100 II is a genuine flagship will be.

The resolution of the electronic viewfinder is supposed to be 9.44 million pixels increase, there is also talk of a particularly large EVF. Videos will turn the camera into 8k or in 4K at 60 frames per second can record – with 10-bit 4:2:2, and it should also be possible to save internally in ProRes format.

In order to avoid overheating at the highest video resolutions, the GFX100 II is expected to be equipped with Fujifilm’s external fan, the FAN-001, be compatible. The fan is currently compatible with three cameras, namely the X-H2, X-H2s and the X-S20. All three of these cameras have a display that can be folded to the left of the housing. However, this should not be the case with the GFX100 II, instead Fujifilm will probably use a 3-way display set.

New information about autofocus and IBIS

When it comes to autofocus, the manufacturer will supposedly take over the tracking functions of the latest APS-C cameras, which means that the GFX100 II will be able to follow faces, eyes, animals, airplanes and other vehicles. Otherwise it is said to be the fastest and best autofocus of the GFX series so far.

Last but not least: The 5-axis Bilstabiliser. While this was still able to compensate for 5.5 f-stops on the GFX100, the GFX100 II should do it all 8 f-stops able to compensate – impressive!
