La Rocca closed its doors permanently after the Easter weekend anyway, but there will therefore be no last farewell party. The fire started on the ground floor according to witnesses, before spreading to the roof, which was completely destroyed. “Everything burned inside and the roof was destroyed,” confirmed Lierre mayor Rik Verwaest (N-VA).
Judging by the images, the damage is impressive. The three people who lived above the nightclub were able to get out unscathed. “They had inhaled some smoke but were not taken to hospital,” Verwaest said.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The forensic lab and an expert are expected as soon as the premises are secure.
