this small mistake on your tax return can cost you 500 euros!

3.8 million Belgians will receive a proposal for a simplified tax declaration this year. The tax expert Koenraad Tranchet, interviewed by our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws, warns against some errors which can “quickly cost you 500 euros or more”.

Indeed, every year, errors slip into simplified declarations. Caution is therefore in order and taxpayers are advised to pay attention to codes 1106 and 2106 which concern the taxation of property income and the non-indexed cadastral income of second homes: “If you do not own anything of this nature, nothing should be registered there”, warns the tax specialist.

Yet, in a number of cases, the tax authorities recorded cadastral income when they should not have: “The problem seems to occur mainly among those who have sold their single residence to move to another single residence. The second dwelling is then considered as a secondary residence, with the resulting tax consequences”.

So be careful because this mistake could cost you around 500 euros!
