According to the police, the man was traveling with two other mountaineers when, despite wearing crampons, he slipped around midday and fell around 150 meters into the Eisleitl, rolling over several times.
Alpine police officers who happened to be there climbed up and provided first aid. The man was flown by rescue helicopter to the Tauern Clinic in Zell am See.
