A 12-year-old boy was killed while tampering with his father’s pistol, as a bullet accidentally exited from it, in a tragic incident in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday.
The spokesman for the Jordanian Public Security, Amer Al-Sartawi, said that a notification was received to the South Amman Police Directorate, on Tuesday evening, about the death of a juvenile by an accidental bullet while tampering with his father’s pistol in his relatives’ home.
Al-Sartawi added that the child’s body was transferred to the forensic medicine, and the security authorities seized the weapon used, while the investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
Jordanian law allows the possession of weapons in homes.
And it stated in the Weapons and Ammunition Law that “all people in the Kingdom are allowed to keep in their homes and places of residence the rifles and pistols necessary for their own use only, with a quantity of equipment designated for that weapon to the extent necessary for self-defense.”
However, the law requires that “a person wishing to acquire a weapon obtains a prior license from the Minister of Interior or his representative, before purchasing a weapon from the dealer, and the seller must record the license number and the buyer’s name in his records.”
