A father dancing on his daughter’s grave breaks hearts… What is the story of this video?

Iranians have been busy over the past few days with a strange video clip showing a father dancing on a grave near his daughter, after he had promised her to dance at her wedding.

The video spread like wildfire on social media, especially after some linked it to the recent protests that swept the Iranian street, following the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini.

While a number of Iranian tweeters indicated that the man stood dancing on the grave of his daughter, who was killed by the security forces in one of the demonstrations.

The video garnered thousands of likes and shares, especially as it depicted a heart-breaking incident if the grieving father appeared to dance while another consoled him beside his daughter’s grave.

Azerbaijani TV series

However, the video is completely false, as it has been filmed for years, and has nothing to do with the protests in Iran, according to the Associated Press.

Rather, the scene dates back to episode 78 of an Azerbaijani TV series called “Ata Ocaği”, the episode was published on YouTube on January 8, 2018, by the Azerbaijani national television channel Xezer TV – according to the agency.

The dance clip appears in the cemetery in the 18th minute of the episode.

The role of the character in the clip is also played by actor, Kurban Ismailov, whose name was mentioned in the comment on the YouTube video and posted about his work on the program on his Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that Amini, who hails from the Kurdish city of Saqqaz in northwestern Iran, died on September 16 (2022) three days after her arrest by the morality police, and then transferred to a hospital in Tehran.

Her death sparked outrage in the country over several issues, including restrictions on personal freedoms and strict rules regarding women’s dress, as well as the living and economic crisis experienced by Iranians, not to mention the strict rules imposed by the regime and its political structure in general. Women played a prominent role in those protests, and female protesters brandished and burned their headscarves.

The demonstrations that swept dozens of cities during the past weeks and still include various races and classes, constituted the largest protests since the protests against fuel prices in 2019, and at the time it was reported that 1,500 people were killed (according to Archyde.com) in crackdowns against the demonstrators.
