Is the future of robots modular? After EPFL’s Mori 3 robot robot, made up of triangular modules, here is Ugot, a robot kit. It was designed by Hong Kong company Ubtech, which became known in 2018 for setting a world record by making 1,372 humanoid robots dance.
Its new robot is a modular kit system that allows you to build more than seven different types of robots. The elements can be assembled to create a quadruped robot (like Spot from Boston Dynamics), a spider spider, a car car, a small vehicle balancing on two wheels, and many others. The manufacturer undoubtedly plans to then offer new modules, since an image on its site shows 10 robots, including a boat and a flying dronedrone.

A robot connected to ChatGPT
The kit contains a main module integrating the processor (CPU), a graphics chip (GPUGPU) and a third chip dedicated to artificial intelligence (NPU), as well as a battery for two and a half hours of autonomy. The robot is also equipped with an inertia control unit, a camera, a microphone, a speaker and a screen. Thanks to integrated AI, the robot can balance, recognize and avoid obstacles or even climb slopes. It recognizes gestures and voice and can even connect to ChatGPTChatGPT. Ugot is compatible with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for real-time control via an applicationapplication, or it can be programmed in PythonPython.
Ubtech launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. The first kit costs around 345 euros and allows you to create two types of robots (one at a time). The complete kit, which allows you to assemble any of the seven types of robots, costs around 513 euros. Delivery is planned from December.
