A massacre was imminent.. Why did the British government plan to exterminate cats?

A former minister in Britain revealed that the government was considering whether it was necessary to “exterminate” all domestic cats in the country, during the early days of the Corona epidemic.

Former Health Minister James Bethel said in televised remarks, Wednesday, that it was not clear at this time whether domestic cats could transmit the virus that has infected tens of millions and paralyzed the world’s economy.

He continued, speaking to Channel 4 News: “We must not forget how little we understand this disease. There were moments when we did not know whether domestic animals could transmit the disease or not.”

And the minister added: “In fact, there was an idea at one point that we might have to ask people to exterminate all cats in Britain. Can you imagine what would have happened if we had done that?”

And in July 2020, at the height of the “Covid 19” crisis, the British government issued a warning to pet cat owners not to kiss them, after a female Siamese cat became the first known animal in the country to contract the disease.

At the time, Margaret Howsey, professor of comparative virology at the University of Glasgow who led the screening programme, advised cat owners to “observe very careful hygiene” when handling their pets.

After months of this time, scientists gained more knowledge about the virus, which began to infect more animals.

Among the theories that the researchers studied to reveal the origin of Corona was the possibility that the virus had passed from animals to humans in a live animal market in Wuhan, central China.
