In a press release, the General Directorate of Health (DGS) announces that it wants to “maintain a sufficient level of vaccine protection in order to reduce the occurrence of severe forms of Covid-19, and the risk of hospitalization and death”, can we read. For this, the organization informs thata new vaccine reminder campaign against Covid-19 begins this Thursday, April 27, 2023. This will run until Friday, June 16.

Covid-19: who is affected by this booster dose?

For the moment, this recall campaign only concerns vulnerable people. In other words, “people aged 80 and over, immunocompromised people, residents of nursing homes and long-term care unitsas well as people at very high risk of severe forms of the disease.”

Indeed, for the DGS, “their vaccination ‘remains necessary’ in the face of the still ‘active’ circulation of Covid-19 and the ‘insufficient level of booster vaccinations'”. Nevertheless, “if the booster vaccination is no longer recommended for the public said to be ‘non-targeted’ by this campaign, anyone who wishes to receive a dose will be able to receive it free of charge’specifies the General Directorate of Health.

Booster dose against Covid-19: how to do it?

If you are concerned by this booster dose, know that it is possible to do it in nursing homes, in healthcare structures, in pharmacies or with doctors and nurses.

However, there is one condition to respect: you must now let pass at least 6 months since the last injection or Covid-19 infection before being entitled to this booster dose. Indeed, until now, the minimum period for those over 80 was 3 months.

Coronavirus: barrier gestures remain essential

“Since the beginning of March 2023, the indicators for surveillance and use of care and the pre-hospital indicators have remained at low levels, but have increased slightly, marking a still active circulation of the virus. Due to the insufficient level of vaccine boosters and the still active circulation of Covid-19, vaccination against Covid-19 in vulnerable people remains necessary”, can we read.

In addition, the health authorities point out that barrier gestures are still necessary. Among them are regular hand washing with soap or a hydroalcoholic solution. It is also recommended to cough or sneeze into their elbow and use a single-use tissue. Above all, avoid hugs and greet others without shaking hands. If you are sick or fragile, wear a mask in the street, shops, public transport, as well as in all public places.
