The incident of Rushdi Abaza’s marriage to singer Sabah and his quick divorce from her remained a mystery that baffled all the artistic community and the audience of the two stars, but some close people went out to explain what happened and their opinions varied.
“Qasmat,” Rushdi Abaza’s daughter, said that her father’s marriage to Sabah took place in 1967 and began as a joke in Lebanon, when Sabah challenged him that he could not marry her for fear of Samia Jamal, so he took her to the Ma’zoun.
She added that the couple woke up from the game and divorced two weeks later, but Sabah remained a friend of her father until his death.
Recently, the late artist’s sister, Munira, revealed the scenes of his marriage to Sabah and the secret of not continuing it in her first media appearance. She said during her hosting on the “Here is the capital” program, that her brother participated in a movie alongside the Lebanese artist in Beirut and that he called the family by phone after that and told her that he would marry her.
She added that the marriage took place in the presence of an authorized person.. He called the next day announcing his divorce from Sabah after only 24 hours, which contradicts the information that indicates that the marriage lasted two weeks.
Munira revealed that the reason for their association was just a whim, and that they worked together and loved each other and that this was the reason for their quick marriage and separation, and that Sabah traveled after the divorce to Paris.
In 2012, Sabah said in a press interview: When I married Rushdi Abaza, he told me that he divorced Samia Jamal, and I married Rushdi to defy all women, and I left Rushdie, because during our drive in the Raouche area, he told me that he is the most important star on earth, so I told him I A star too, and not only you, and I asked him to drop me off, and I came home by taxi. On that day, I decided to break up with him.
In another account, the media, Sana Al-Baisi, said about the reason for the separation of the couple in an article she wrote in 2007: The writer Saad Fariha was the reason behind Sabah’s leaving Rushdi Abaza because he would publish pictures of Samia Jamal sweeping, wiping and crying over him. The audience accused Sabah of being the reason why she insisted on divorce.
