A study points to the naivety of Belgium in the face of Alibaba

A study by Professor Jonathan Holslag of the VUB, a specialist in China, shows the naivety of Belgian officials in the installation file of Alibaba, via its subsidiary Cainiao, at Liège airport. The customs services were not prepared for a system “worse than that of the cocaine traffickers”.

On not going to say that it reads like a novel, but for a scientific publication, the study Worse than cocaine. Assessing the impact of Alibaba’s mega-hub in Liège by VUB international relations professor Jonathan Holslag is quite compelling. It makes it possible to go from discovery to discovery between Belgian naivety in the face of promises of jobs and a Chinese strategy of expansion and control with an economic tool like the European hub of Alibaba officially installed at Liege Airport for a little more one year. The study by Jonathan Holslag, who has written several books on China and is an expert for the European Commission, is part of a research center on geo-economics in development with the Royal Military School.
