According to the news in the Colombian press, Swedish citizen Ulf Bilger Erlingsson was abducted by ELN members in the town of Tibu in the Northern Santander administrative region.
The ELN confirmed that they had kidnapped the documentary filmmaker and journalist Erlingsson, stating that he was abducted on March 1 on charges of conspiracy and espionage.
Noting that the Swedish authorities, the Ombudsman Office and the Catholic Church made requests to them, ELN announced that Erlingsson would be released after a certain period of time.
The third round of negotiations between the Colombian government and ELN representatives is expected to begin on May 2, hosted by Cuba.
The second round of negotiations between the peace delegation of the Colombian government and representatives of the ELN in Mexico, which started on February 14, ended with the recognition of the political status of the ELN.
