Artist Will.I.Am and Mercedes-AMG have collaborated to create a unique model: a G-Class front end and an AMG GT look. This amazing project should be used to raise funds for schools.
“It’s funny, but your head doesn’t match your body at all”. That’s what we might say regarding this new AMG project. As we patiently await the arrival of the next generation of the GT, AMG has just teased a whole different kind of sports car. Created in collaboration with theartiste Will.I.Amthis car appears to wear a G-Class face paired with a two-door coupe silhouette. It’s quite unconventional and it leaves us perplexed. The model is set to be introduced on May 5 as a special, one-of-a-kind vehicle designed to raise funds for “school engineering” programs.
AMG and Will.I.Am shared some teasers on Instagram, revealing parts of the vehicle. The most interesting and surprising point is the front end: it is inspired by the legendary G-Class with round LEDs, a square muzzle and AMG-look air intakes on the shield. Matching the face of a rugged SUV to a sports car is quite amazing, but contrary to popular belief, this is not a digital sketch, but a real vehicle. Dubbed Will.I.AMG this project actually exists in real life.
Coupe look
In profile, it’s a different story: the roofline resembles that of an AMG GT, and the rear reminds us of an AMG GT 4-door. LThe video teaser reveals suicide doors and SLR-style air intakes on the front fenders.
According to Will.I.Am’s official website, he “created a car for Mercedes-AMG that will help fund engineering programs in inner-city schools to prepare our youth for a technological future.” Hopefully we’ll know more regarding the technical basis of this build in a few days, because we’re curious what kind of engine is hiding under the hood..
