In a touching video filled with tears of joy, the international American actor, Ki Hui Kwan, expressed his happiness after announcing that he won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in the science fiction movie Everything Everywhere All at Once during the 95th Academy Awards.

The star became the first actor of Vietnamese (Asian) origin to win an Academy Award for his role as the husband of an American laundress of Chinese origin, and when his name was announced, Kwan climbed onto the stage amid standing ovations from the audience.

“My mother is 84 years old, and she is watching me now. Mama, I just won an Oscar,” he said in a poignant speech, as he collapsed crying with tears in his eyes.

He also added, “I started my journey in a boat and spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow ended up here. I can’t believe this is happening to me, they say it only happens in movies.”

He continued, “I owe everything to the love of my life, my wife, who used to tell me every month and every year that one day my dream would come true, which happened after 20 years.”

He also said, “A dream is something you must believe in, and I am about to lose hope in achieving my dream,” directing his message to the masses, “Keep achieving your dreams.” While his wife was standing crying with joy at her life partner’s achievement.

Winning the Oscar is a resounding rehabilitation for Ky Hui Kwan, after he was forced in the nineties of the last century to suspend his acting career in light of the lack of roles in Hollywood for actors of Asian descent.

Combining action, comedy and sci-fi elements, Everything Everywhere All at Once tells the story of the owner of a laundry, exhausted by her administrative problems with the tax authorities, and suddenly drawn into a group of parallel worlds. The film is nominated for 11 awards this year.

It is noteworthy that the Academy Awards ceremony, in its 95th session, kicked off on Monday morning, at the international stage in the US state of Los Angeles, during which the Academy Awards are presented for the best cinematic works that were launched in the years 2022 to 2023, in the presence of a large group of international cinema stars.
