Angelique Cormier, guest artist at Vinatier Farm in the spring of 2023, invites us through his exhibition “Tout un pli” to dive into his poetic universe, where each folding augurs a surprise, an enchantment, an invitation to meet and travel…
Angélique Cormier, multidisciplinary artist, combines in her creations the art of poetry, music, soundpainting and origami. This spring, she will invite the public of the Ferme du Vinatier to enter her universe made of folded papers and words set in motion, and to imagine together a project in which each and everyone will be invited to speak, with a view to to create a poetic Manifestation, which will take the form of a stroll, as part of the encounter scenes “In the heart of your ears” in June 2023.
The Poetic Manifestation is a choir made up of people unfolding, deploying origrams; an origram, a concept invented by Angélique Cormier, is a nod to Apollinaire’s calligrams mixed with the art of origami. A word, a thought, is written on a paper which is then folded according to geometric and repetitive patterns. The flowchart then becomes an object that can be grasped, folded and unfolded at will. The poetic demonstrators will create origrams, from their own imagination. They will deploy their paper thoughts in chorus, according to individual and collective movements sought together.
At the crossroads between the plastic installation, the performance, and the wandering choir, the poetic manifestation will bring out voices between the folds.
« Bend. Taking a sheet of paper and making a first fold is like the promise of a world appearing. Sometimes I know exactly what it will look like, and sometimes – often – it’s the paper taking shape that surprises me.
The fold carries within it a poetry: that of making a fragile material solid. The fold makes it stand up, unfolds the space, unfolds the space. It evokes time: that spent folding, that of the folds of our skins which carry those of passing time. When you think about it, it’s just a piece of paper, nothing more. It is this simplicity, this destitution that I like to encounter when I pass my hands, in repeated and precise gestures, through the fibers of the paper. This practice is entirely connected to that of my job as a composer-musician. Start from the blank page, and compose patterns, arrange them together, to create a shape… And create poems in 3 dimensions. » — Angelique Cormier
