Aareon rolls out over 50 AI agents for utility billing

More than 50 autonomous artificial intelligence agents are taking over utility billing and operating cost accounting across the real estate sector, as software provider Aareon rolls out its new fleet following an unveiling at the Expo Real 2026 trade fair.

Autonomous Agents Meet Human Oversight

The deployment targets the complex mechanics of property management administration. Aareon’s independent agents shoulder routine accounting tasks and draft operating cost calculations at scale. Yet automation stops short of full autonomy. Every generated result and billing draft requires manual review and formal release by human operators before final execution.

Scaling Data Extraction Across Millions of Homes

Similar administrative pressures are driving automation at energy and metering service provider Techem. The firm relies on artificial intelligence to automatically capture and extract data from utility provider forms. These extraction pipelines achieve a hit rate of 98 to 99 percent across a data baseline spanning approximately 1.1 million apartments, though the company manages a larger total portfolio.

Industry discussions at the joint gathering of GdW, Aareon, and Techem emphasized that long-term operational efficiency hinges on scaling these autonomous data extraction routines.

A Sixfold Surge in Targeted Cyberattacks

That digital connectivity carries a steep operational cost. Aareon disclosed that registered hacker attacks targeting its proprietary data center have surged by a factor of 6 since the beginning of the year, underlining the severe security risks facing central digital nodes within the real estate software ecosystem.

Pushback Against Rigid Data Privacy Rules

The association maintains that relaxed regulatory constraints on processing anonymized consumption data are necessary to operate modern algorithms securely and efficiently for energy and cost optimization.
