During the second global conference of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, launched the “Abu Dhabi Document for Scientific Developments”, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa, and Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Director General of the Council, And a number of senior officials from various specialized fatwa and research bodies from around the world.
This document is the first of its kind in the region, and addresses the institutions and fatwa bodies and their cadres specialized in legal fatwas, to urge the need to unify efforts, exchange experiences, and find out the most accurate perceptions of scientific developments, in order to reach a balanced legal understanding that is compatible with the challenges and changes in the contemporary environment.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Bayyah stressed that this document comes in line with the national vision of the UAE to allocate 2023 as the year of sustainability, and to keep pace with the qualitative projects and proactive initiatives of the state, and to alert to what the emergence of renewed inventions and discoveries, and rapid digital developments, will cause a qualitative shift in various areas of life. Such as health, economics, space sciences, energy, climate, agriculture, and artificial intelligence, and the problems they pose regarding their legal rulings. Because there is no text to refer to and no previous example to compare to.
His Excellency added that the document also comes in conjunction with the diligence required for the fatwa industry to achieve the objective, by adopting fundamentalist methodological controls that require defining perceptions, controlling concepts, comprehending the facts in light of the legal texts, taking into account the objectives and outcomes, awareness of reality, and the necessity of being open to developments and developments, and seeking help from modern science and expertise. And a comprehensive understanding of all the scientific and realistic dimensions considered in the fatwa, in accordance with the principles, objectives, and legal universals.
