A disabled woman in the UK complained that because she was not eligible for the medical car transport service, she was unable to leave her home for 10 years. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she was unable to go to the hospital for regular follow-up. (Image/reproduced from pexels)

Dawn Steel, a 60-year-old woman in the West Midlands, England, had to live a wheelchair-dependent life after her artificial knee joint failed to be replaced. She once suffered from cancer and revealed that she had been trapped at home for a long time. 10 years because she “does not qualify” for the medical transportation service provided by the government.

According to the British “Daily Mirror” report, cancer survivor Dane has been in a wheelchair for more than 10 years since she underwent knee replacement surgery in 2013. She still has trouble sleeping every night and is very worried about her health.

Dane said that the hospital had always provided ambulance transportation when she returned to the hospital, but later she was told that she had to take a taxi to go to the hospital by herself. However, due to the lack of barrier-free access in the apartment, she was unable to leave her residence for a full 10 years. Even regular follow-up after cancer is not possible in the hospital.

In this regard, the local ambulance service center revealed that since the patient pick-up service is only suitable for “serious and complex cases”, after the qualification review, Ms. Dain unfortunately did not meet the standards, but if the public needs help, they can still apply for relevant Transportation Grants.
