ADOS Targets 4,500 Blood Donations in Galician Campuses

La Axencia de Doazón de Órganos e Sangue (ADOS) has mobilized mobile units across Galician university campuses as the XII Outubro Saudable enters its final week, targeting a nationwide objective of 10,000 blood donations and 1,000 bone marrow registry sign-ups across Spain.

Reaching the Academic Goal

  • ADOS requires approximately 400 daily blood donations across the region, with an immediate operational focus on boosting supplies of the positive zero blood group.
  • The regional academic campaign, titled “Un alento de vida,” aims to secure 4,500 total blood donations across the seven campuses belonging to Galicia’s three main universities.
  • During the 2025–2026 academic cycle, Galician universities contributed 4,605 total donations, with 35% coming from first-time donors.

Mobile Unit Schedules Across Galician Campuses

To capture donations ahead of the campaign’s conclusion, ADOS has deployed specialized collection vehicles directly to university grounds. On Tuesday, October 27, a mobile unit stationed itself outside the Technical Architecture Faculty in A Coruña, operating dual shifts from 09:30 to 14:30 and 15:30 to 21:00 hours.

Operations expand on Wednesday, October 28, when three distinct units deploy simultaneously. Collection points open outside the Nursing and Podiatry Faculty in Ferrol, the Technical Architecture Faculty in A Coruña, and the Industrial Engineering School in Vigo during the standard 09:30 to 14:30 and 15:30 to 21:00 operating windows.

The final deployment phase hits on Thursday, October 29. Mobile units station themselves in front of the Polytechnic Engineering School in Ferrol, the classroom building of the Veterinary Faculty in Lugo, and the Industrial Engineering School in Vigo.

Campus Breakdown and Outreach Activations

Performance tracking from the previous academic year demonstrates distinct collection volumes across the regional university network. The Universidade de Santiago de Compostela led regional contributions with 1,891 donations, followed by the Universidade da Coruña with 1,427, and the Universidade de Vigo with 1,287.

University Institution Previous Academic Year Donations Current Campaign Target
Universidade de Santiago de Compostela 1,891 Integrated into regional 4,500 goal
Universidade da Coruña 1,427 Integrated into regional 4,500 goal
Universidade de Vigo 1,287 Integrated into regional 4,500 goal

Alongside blood collection, ADOS is running targeted awareness initiatives on the ground. During Tuesday’s visit to A Coruña and Wednesday’s stop in Ferrol, staff have erected a giant blood drop sculpture where donors can attach balloons as a visual metaphor for donation. Concurrently, an informational desk focusing on bone marrow registration operates at the entrance of the A Coruña Technical Architecture Faculty to guide students through registration procedures.

Accessing Schedule and Registry Information

Students and faculty members seeking specific routing updates, mobile unit relocation timetables, or answers regarding eligibility criteria can utilize official institutional channels. ADOS maintains updated logistics via the ADOS regional health portal, active social media channels, and a dedicated toll-free telephone line at 900 100 828.
