Yesterday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that 10,633 Syrians returned to their country voluntarily after the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6.
The Turkish “Anatolia” news agency quoted Akar as saying in statements during an inspection tour of border posts in the south of the country, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Yashar Guler, that “some malicious parties have made allegations that there is an influx of refugees across the border to Hatay state, which was severely affected by the earthquake.” .
Akar stressed that “it turned out that these allegations are completely unfounded and that there are no refugee crossings towards Turkey, whether from the border gates or the border strip.”
Akar explained that 10,633 Syrians returned from Turkey to their country voluntarily after the earthquake.
At the beginning of his tour, Akar visited the Yayladaği border crossing with Syria in the state of Hatay, where officials at the crossing confirmed that there were no refugees crossing towards Turkey from this gate and that, on the contrary, there are final returns to Syria.
