Al-Marsad Newspaper: Legal Counsel Bandar Al-Maghamis clarified the legal position of each drug addict, promoter and smuggler, calling on their families to report and not cover them up.
“Al-Maghamis” said in the “Skype” intervention on the Saudi channel, that the addict within the family is like a bomb, at any time it explodes, indicating that the legal position in the event that the family reports the existence of an addict, is that the systems deal with him in complete secrecy and he is treated as a patient.
He explained that all systems stand with the family, and in the event that the addict submits to treatment, the principle is that he is not punished. The aim of the systems is to combat drugs and treat the addict, not punish him.
Al-Maghamis pointed out, but if the family waits until he is arrested at any security point, or one of the campaigns of the competent authorities against drug addicts, then there are penalties, and he is treated as the person who committed the crime.
He pointed out that the punishment varies in the event that the person is a drug dealer or smuggler, and that the punishment in this case reaches death as a ta’zir.
