Al-Sisi’s statements came during his meeting with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, in Cairo.

Sisi told Blinken in video statements:

The crisis requires us to work with strength and determination to contain it and limit its repercussions. We completely condemn and reject any harm to civilians, whoever they are, and I consider this a very important point. This is a position and a role that we have been keen on over many years and since the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. Egypt was playing a very positive role in all the crises that broke out (between the Palestinians and the Israelis), and today we are talking about 5 rounds of conflict between the Gaza Strip and Israel. During the five rounds, 12,500 Palestinian civilians were killed, and on the Israeli side, 2,700 were killed, including 1,500 who were killed in the last crisis. He added that 100,000 Palestinians were injured, while 12,000 Israelis were injured. 2,500 Palestinian children were killed, while 150 Israeli children were killed, according to Sisi. Delay in finding a solution to this crisis will result in more victims. He considered the current crisis to be very large, and said that the Israeli reaction goes beyond the right to self-defense and turns into collective punishment of the Gaza Strip, which is inhabited by 2.3 million Palestinians. He stressed that what happened nine days ago was big and difficult, and there is no doubt about that, and we also condemn it, but there is an accumulation of cases of anger and hatred that have occurred over more than 40 years, with no horizon for resolving the Palestinian issue. We are doing our best to contain the situation and prevent other parties from entering the conflict.
