After work, Friday, June 23, the media library reopened its doors in Bandol.
For its official inauguration were present the family of Albert Kastler (Nobel Prize in Physics in 1966), accompanied by the laboratory engineer Guy Flori who worked for more than 35 years alongside the physicist, the godfather of the establishment David Foenkinos (novelist, playwright, screenwriter and director), Mayor Jean-Paul Joseph, representatives of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac), the South Region and the main institutions.
A name had to be found for this media library and, after several consultations, the name Albert Kastler was chosen. This physicist was the precursor of the laser. Attracted by the luminosity of Bandol, he ended his days there in 1984.
The link between culture and the municipality was strong enough to allow this scientist the privilege of giving his name to this new cultural space. It is with great emotion that the relatives of the physicist intervened to thank the people of Bandol for this consideration.

The media library took a digital turn during its renovation and offers a cultural space to everyone. A “sound chair” offers those most sensitive to music an auditory comfort that should be tried. A workspace equipped with computers, a modular conference space, new functional furniture help to dust off the place and bring it up to date.
The most technological part remains the Micro-folie space. A few tablets connected to a larger screen, give access to many museums for virtual guided tours, but also to video games, conferences. Just as many services that the youngest or the less young will be able to appropriate within this marvelous space and this beautiful cultural tool. From the start of the school year, schoolchildren will be welcomed.
It’s a hell of a tool that has been put in place and just waiting to be known and frequented, so carefully and research has its renovation been carried out. The result is there.
David Foenkinos took the floor in the room of the Jules-Verne theater to animate a conference and a dedication of some of his works.
The budget for the renovation of the media library is around 500,000 euros, about half of which has been paid for by the Drac and the Region. More than 300 additional works have come to enrich the shelves of books and digital memories.
