This Wednesday, April 10, 1,300 students aged 16 and over were questioned by IMSEE on behalf of ESPAD (European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs), as part of a survey on behavior at risk of adolescents.

This initiative, carried out every 4 years in around thirty European countries, aims to study the health behaviors, lifestyle and consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs of young people aged 16 and over in school. Objective: understand how young people live and establish international comparisons.

The use of electronic cigarettes more widespread

This survey, in which Monaco has participated since 2007, took the form of an online questionnaire for which the responses provided are entirely anonymous and confidential. These are then hosted on a secure server.

The previous study, carried out in 2019, for example, established that cigarette consumption among young people had continued to decline since 2011 in Monaco.

Conversely, the use of electronic cigarettes was more widespread with 63% of adolescents declaring that they had already tried it (40% on average in all European countries). Furthermore, cannabis was the most consumed illicit product at 16 years old, in Monaco as in the rest of Europe.

The results of the survey conducted this year will be published by IMSEE in the fourth quarter of 2024.
